This year, our fifth and sixth grade crews are going to study about water, water quality, and agriculture for their expedition. For an exciting way to kick off the expedition, their crew leaders took them on a river float on the Portneuf River. We are so lucky to have a river right outside our side-door!
Rain and power outages couldn’t stop this adventure. After rescheduling twice, the day finally arrived. Many tubes were inflated, many helping hands showed up and the students headed down the river.
Hayden, a 6th grader, said, “We were floating the river and it was really fun and I enjoyed it.I’m glad we get to go on trips with the school like this.I really enjoy it, it’s really fun”
Aaliyah, also 6th grade, said, “We floated the river. We walked over there and we started floating. The water, it was like cold, but then it got really warm. It was really fun because we got to come out of our tubes if we wanted!”
Students were happy to have parents join in the fun as well. Parents and family members who came along, helped the students get into the water, onto their tubes, and back out of the water at the end. Aven, a 5th grader was happy to have his mom there. He also showed some grit by getting back up after falling in.
He said, “I went onto the river and I fell in 5 times! And that, I am not happy about, but other than that, I was really happy about going on the river because my mom was here. I was so excited because I was finally going swimming at school!”
It was a beautiful day for floating the river as well as a perfect day to have some adventure at school. Students learned how to work together, have grit, and try something new while enjoying the scenery.
