Getting Started

Hello! We are thrilled in your interest regarding the Pocatello Community Charter School (PCCS hereafter). PCCS is the independent public school of choice, serving students from Kindergarten through the 8th grade. Our school is self-governed by parents and teachers and involves families at every level. We do not charge tuition, but we do encourage a high level of family support, commitment, and service.

Charter schools are often called research and development centers, most focusing on a particular learning system. The model we use is Expeditionary Learning.

Expeditionary Learning is an interdisciplinary, child-centered, project-based approach to teaching and learning. Learning expeditions are in-depth studies that draw together personal experience and intellectual growth to promote self-discovery and further the pursuit of knowledge. Our program is aligned with Idaho Achievement Standards in math, language arts, health, science, and social studies .  Expeditionary Learning is based on the learning theory of social-constructivism.  We believe that children should learn in the context of other students where they can push one another's thinking, but they should be individually responsible for their own learning.
